Educational Evaluation and Assessment
All aspects of life are
considered in evaluation. Naturally, all humans reflect on their life's
successes and failures. Human thought and consideration gave birth to the
concept of evaluation. Individuals can use evaluation to determine their next
steps. Evaluation, as an activity, highlights an individual's mistakes and how
to avoid them in the future. The importance of educational evaluation and
assessment is widely acknowledged, as stated in the following lines:
Acquiring educational objectives:
The process of educational
evaluation informs teachers and educational administrators about the extent to
which educational objectives have been met. Practical skills and activities are
carried out in order to achieve educational goals. The evaluation process is
required to determine the extent to which these activities contributed to the
achievement of educational goals. To me, evaluation is a mirror in which the
degree is reflected.
The emergence of behavioural changes:
One of the primary goals of education is to produce behavioural changes in individuals. In terms of the educational process, an organised effort is made to produce behavioural changes in the individual. However, the question of how to measure the range, extent, and degree of the observed behavioural changes arises. These questions are answered by the process of educational evaluations. The extent of expected behavioural changes can be determined through the educational evaluation process.
Planning for Education:
The educational evaluation results
show the students' current and achieved educational performance. It also
highlights flaws in the educational process, teacher performance, and the
degree of success of educational policies. With all of these facts and
educational matters in mind, the education system plans for better future
educational strategies.
Choosing an explicit direction:
The outcomes of educational
evaluation direct the educational process toward a specific goal. There could
have been many flaws in the instructional process, such as unrealistic
expectations about the effectiveness of the curricular content and elements
that failed to produce the desired results. All of these flaws are revealed by
the results of educational evaluation. In light of the aforementioned flaws,
the educational administration develops an explicit and modified strategy for
the educational process.
Academic achievement:
Through evaluation, a teacher can
determine a student's level/degree of educational achievement. Various
information and skills are imparted to students during the instructional
process. The process of educational evaluation allows the teacher to determine
how much of the information and skills imparted to the students have become a
part of their personalities. The level of educational achievement indicates the
extent of the students' behavioural changes. We may not be able to determine
the level of educational achievement of students if the process of educational
evaluation does not exist. If we are to make recommendations for the students, we
must first assess their performance.
Inspiration:
Motivation is an inner state that
persuades a person to act. Every action an individual takes is motivated by
something. When someone is motivated, there is an unseen force pushing him to
act. In educational terminology, this force is referred to as motivation. The
process of educational evaluation encourages students to succeed. The only
motivation that motivates them to perform well in the evaluation process is
exam success.
Educational research:
Educational research uses the
findings of educational research. The necessary modifications and reforms are
implemented based on teacher observations, mental test results, and student
examination results. Educational research takes evaluation findings to the laboratory
and creates comprehensive future educational programmes.
Class promotion:
Students are promoted to the next
class based on the results of their evaluations. The evaluation results tell
the entire story of students' mastery of the content and whether or not they
should be promoted to the next classes. If the process of promotion to the next
class is halted, the educational system may become inactive, static, and
immobile. In this regard, all experts agree on the importance of educational
evaluation. This is the only legal way to advance students to the next level of
instruction.
Grading:
Using the findings of educational
evaluation, a teacher can determine a student's grade in comparison to other
students. When a student's performance is compared to that of other students,
the educational grade of the student is determined. Grading students is a
delicate process. The evaluation process aids in scientifically grading
students. Grading students allows a teacher to determine a student's
educational status. What can a student do? What should he/she choose for
himself/herself? These are the questions that are directly related to
educational evaluation.
Subject and profession selection:
A class's students have varying
abilities and tendencies. Because of the students' individual differences,
certain professions and subjects suit specific students. Natural tendencies and
student choices cannot be the same. The results of the educational evaluation
can inform a teacher about the natural trends of his or her students. The
teacher can guide students in their choice of professions and subjects based on
the results of educational evaluation.
